I’m so excited to share this beautiful campaign project with you all. Albeit a tad late to the party with this blog post but nevertheless, here it is! Bridal has always been a favourite genre of photography for me so when Jessica approached me with her new Jessica Couture S/S 2020 collection, I didn’t hesitate to say yes.
The challenge when shooting bridal, is balancing between classic beauty and fashion. The concept for Jessica Couture S/S 2020 was Eternal Elegance – Glamourous, modern, everlasting. We wanted to incorporate a sense of fashion; modern but timeless, nonetheless. My favourite part of this project was shooting on location. We had free run of the beautiful Te Hihi Estate in Auckland, New Zealand which provided the beautiful backdrop for our handful of locations. The nature of shooting a lookbook on location meant that we were at the mercy of the elements, and in particular, chasing the sun before it set. Add some patchy cloud cover and it was the perfect test for our on-the-go lighting knowledge. With 12 gowns and only a measly 6 hours of shooting time before the sun set, it was all hands on deck from the word go. Our model Paige (62 Model Management) arrived promptly from the airport and was straight into the makeup chair with our talented artist Elizabeth (Faceme Makeup). My favourite look was without a doubt the two gowns we shot on the tennis court. Although not originally on the moodboard, after Jessica showed me an example on her phone I was sold. My assistant Nick (A talented photographer in his own right!) and I threw together a set in a few minutes between looks and we were off. And of course, our cover image came out with a little bit of luck and a lot of running. We were initially shooting this dress on a balcony as the sun was setting when we noticed the rapidly setting sun casting its gorgeous, orange light across the pool area downstairs. Needless to say, we picked up and reset downstairs in 2 minutes. Tether station, lighting and all!
